I want to acknowledge that today is a historic day.

It is essential to note that my version of manhood does not discriminate or “hate on” other people or groups. It wasn’t that long ago that hatred was rampant in the USA. And, guess what? Sadly,
it still is.

We have come a long way since Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech. Today an African American President will take the reins to steer our Country’s ship. We are in a powerful time. At the same time, there is much more to do and yet, we have a long way to go. Whatever side of the fence you are on, the time has come to rise up to the challenges we face individually and collectively.

Today I heard Obama challenge us to step up. I’m a “yes” to that. Are you?

I challenge each of us to step up in some way this week and not look to others to do things for us. Push yourself this week to help another person. Make it your priority to “serve” this week. Make a commitment within the week that has to do with helping others in a tangible way.  Report about it on the wall. Share your story.

Think if MLK or Barak Obama were to “hold themselves back” from others. They could never have accomplished what they did and Obama wouldn’t be standing where he is today.

So, don’t hold back this week.

It is my hope that we live in and up to brave men like MLK and Barak Obama. So, fight for your cause. Stand up for what is just, good, and right.

Notice what kind of man you think Obama is. What qualities will you be watching for as he leads our country?

For me, it brings up the question: What kind of Man will I be? What legacy do I want to leave and how can I help the greater good right now?
